The Guardian

Tue, 18 Sep 2012 - 12:34 PM CST

Guardian Book CoverReleasing October 9, 2012, The Guardian by Heather Burch continues the story of the Halflings, half-angel and half-human, as they protect the orphaned Nikki Youngblood from her dangerous legal guardian.

In the story, written with suspense, adventure and romance like secular young adult novels, the supernatural Halflings are assigned to protect Nikki. However, in the midst of their adventures, Mace and Raven also fall in love with her. As much as they care for her though, would they risk all of eternity for Nikki? In the meantime, Nikki develops feelings for both Mace and Raven and struggles to decide between the two.

Originally from Branson, Missouri, Heather takes Nikki and the Halflings on adventures in Missouri, the Atlantic Ocean and Europe as they are determined to keep her safe and away from Damon Vessler. Though the story starts out slow and seems to drag a little, students and adults who enjoy other young adult suspense novels will likely enjoy The Guardian.

Pros: The storyline and intense relationship between characters are written well.

Cons: The story kind of drags and those not interested in other young adult suspense novels will probably not be interested.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
