  Winter Jam 2012

  Bringing a message of hope in times of despair and loaded with Christian music's top and rising artists, The Winter Jam Tour Spectacular rolled into Springfield, MO, on March 26.

  A low $10 at-the-door ticket price encouraged approximately 9,000 youth groups and families to attend the event. Noting that the message was important for all to hear, many artists also blessed attendees with a "pay what you can" price for their latest releases.

  As soon as the doors opened, a rockin' and soulful Pre-Jam show started with We As Human, For King & Country and Dara Maclean.

  Billed with top Christian artists for 16 years, the tour certainly knows how to make a jammin' show for all ages to enjoy. Group 1 Crew started the show with their hip-hop hits including "Beautiful" and "Walking on the Stars." Building 429 brought a rockin' performance including "Made for You" and "Listen to the Sound." Tour hosts NewSong began their set behind a 30-foot painting of Jesus as they belted out "Arise My Love" and encouraged attendees with "The Same God" and "Rescue." Kari Jobe led the audience into a powerful time of worship that brought the arena of fans to church as they sang along to "We Are," "Love Came Down" and "Revelation Song."

  Tour speaker Nick Hall then delivered a moving message from John 1:7 as he told how Jesus is the light of the world. He challenged all to be a light and led many to stand in declaration of their faith. Illusionist Brock Gill also wowed the crowd with performances, including the water coffin, in between acts.

  Excitement grew as former Newsboys front man Peter Furler sang his solo songs including "Reach." Joined by former Newsboys band mate Phil Joel, the two took the crowd back to amazing memories with "He Reigns," "Entertaining Angels" and "I Am Free." Sanctus Real kept up the enthusiasm with their moving hits of "Face of Love," "Something Heavenly," "Redeemer," "Lead Me" and "Forgiven."

  Skillet stole the show though with their heavily rockin' performances full of pyrotechnics, bursts of fire and steam as fans lost their voices to hits such as "Awake and Alive," "Hero," "Last Night" and "Monster." Composed of vocals, guitars, strings and drums, amazing stunts and skills brought the crowd to a louder roar with each performance.

  Combining the different genres of the Christian music industry into one show definitely made for an enjoyable and memorable evening for all ages. More importantly, though, was the encouraging message that each of the artists shared: no matter what your circumstance, God is with you now.

  Pros: Affordable prices and amazing acts make for an awesome family-friendly event.

  Cons: The no seat-saving policy may make it difficult for larger groups to meet up and sit together.
